Lois Nicholls was born in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She grew up in Howick, a little country town which has auspiciously positioned itself as ‘The Hub of the Midlands’. She went to the same school with the same class from Year 1 to Year 12 and was hopelessly unprepared for being plucked from the comfortable bosom of family and friends when she emigrated to Australia in 1997. Home is now Brisbane, Australia where she lives with husband, Brenton and children, Keegan, Lara, Evan and golden retriever, Tarna.
Over the years she has been published in a wide-range of magazines and newspapers in South Africa, Australia and the UK. These include South African Reader’s Digest, The Mercury, South African Country Life, London’s TNT Magazine, Fifteen – the official SA Rugby magazine, The Sunday Tribune, Australian Good Medicine (now Good Health & Medicine), Country Style, Australian Longwall Magazine and The Courier Mail.
When she’s not writing, she enjoys garage sales, painting old furniture white, reading, curling up with a décor mag and walking her dog. She also loves Italian food and plans to celebrate her 50th (many, many years from now . . .) in Tuscany!
